These products are usually confined to low fiber content mixes
(< 2% by weight), or high water content mixes where the excess water
is removed, such as in vacuum de-watering processes commonly used to
manufacture asbestos cement and calcium silicate products.
Number of Filaments per Strand.
Basically determines the number of strands per unit volume for a
given weight percent. Generally the more strands per unit volume the
higher the flexural strength but mix workability is usually reduced.
The last letter in the product code gives the number of filaments per strand as follows:
(Z = 50 Filaments per strand, Y = 100 Filaments per Strand, X = 200 Filaments per Strand)
H530X (most common glass used in GFRC mixes)
High integrity strand, designed for premix applications such as
premix casting and premix spraying. Available in 13, 25 and 38 mm
lengths (1/2, 1 and 1 1/2 inch).
Strand length is given by the first one or two digits in the product
code.
Example: 13H530X = 13 mm (1/2 inch) product.
H350Y
High integrity strand, designed for lower glassfiber content applications,
such as stucco and surface bonding. It has half the number
of filaments per strand that H530X, so it provides twice the number of
strands for same weight content as H530X. This can create workability difficulties
at higher fiber contents. However, this feature can maximize strengths
in low fiber content composites. The finer strand is less visible at the
surface, which is of benefit in stucco applications.
Available in 13mm (1/2 inch) length.
PH901X (most common glass used in GFRC mixes)
The letter P in the product code states that the filament
diameter is 18 microns as opposed to all other products which have 13
micron filament diameters. This makes it our heaviest available strand.
It has the highest integrity and is most resistant to filamentization
during mixing and processing. It is particularly suitable for
spray-premix. Available in 13, 19 and 25 mm (1/2, 3/4, 1 inch) lengths.
S750
Designed for fast dispersion into individual filaments on mixing
in aqueous slurries. Particularly suitable for asbestos replacement
applications and can be incorporated into face mix slurries to help
reduce surface crazing. Strand is wet cut and has residual moisture.
Available in 6 and 13mm (1/4 and ½ inch) lengths.
13H103 Chopped Strand
This chopped strand is design for use in Fiber Reinforced
Concrete (FRC) for plastic shrinkage crack control. It is not intended
for general use in GFRC
Typically the dosage rate will be 1 1/2 lbs/cu. yd. of
concrete. Mixing of the fibers needs to be done at the job site as
excessive mixing time can cause damage to the fibers.
